Crafting Pieces of Permanence in Northern Portugal
“Crafting pieces of
permanence that anchor you in quiet resonance with your home.”
We chose Lisbon for our base and the workshops of Porto for our manufacturing because the country offered something we could not find elsewhere: a quiet, deeply rooted culture of high-quality manufacturing with access to the southern European market. The reason for this, is due to our vision for the company:
“Crafting pieces of permanence that anchor you in quiet resonance with your home.”
We believe in designing for longevity, both in how it is built, how it is lived with and how it is cared for long term. We want to cultivate a deeper relationship with the spaces we occupy, and that starts with the furniture that occupies the home. The feeling of returning to a room that is consistently in harmony with itself. The subtle elevation of an ordinary. A home that grounds life rather than performs.
“Our designs look to enrich and inspire an enduring connection to modern living. Through timeless aesthetics, championing longevity, and a focus on aftercare, we ensure every piece is developed in line with circularity principles.”
— Elliot Nicholl, Director, ORA Home
The Debut Collection
Our first collection is a family of five pieces, each designed to work both as an individual as well as together.
The Balu Sofa: The centrepiece of the collection and a reimagining of what a sofa can be. A multi-density foam base with feather and down toppers sits on a freestanding solid oak structure with no fixed attachment between cushion and frame. Four movable back bolsters reconfigure the depth and posture of the seat; furthermore, their toppers unzip to become floor mats. The Balu adapts to the body, the mood and the moment — tall or small, formal or sprawled, alone or shared with family and pets.
The Emba Coffee Table: A monolithic form in solid oak with a carved tray relief at its centre — an invitation for the objects of a life to gather. The Emba anchors a room without dominating it.
The Pebal Tray: A silver travertine top on a Portuguese cork base, shaped to nest perfectly into the Emba’s relief. Its intentional weight allows it to sit stably on the Balu’s cushions, holding a drink or a book while you recline.
The Kadi Side Table: A solid oak side table with a softly carved oval top, height-engineered with a cantilevered profile to fit just over the seat of the Balu — convenience wherever you choose to sit.
Beach, Town and Country: The Curated Textile Matrix
Functionality and refined aesthetics share the same brief when it comes to the fabric choice. The Balu is offered with a nine-tier curated textile matrix, organized around three lived environments: Beach, Town and Country. The framework is the way we actually design — each environment has its own functional demands and aesthetic.
For example, a townhouse, a pure Belgian linen lends a refined, luxurious warmth that softens hard architectural lines. For a coastal home, more open weaves and lighter tones invite barefoot afternoons. For a country interior, denser wool blends and deeper colours hold the gravity of stone walls and long evenings. Each fabric is available in a range of colours through our bespoke online customizer.
Furthermore, every upholstered cover is fully removable — for cleaning, for recovering, for changing seasons or changing minds. This is how we achieve adaptability and longevity.
MADE IN PORTUGAL
The Balu is handcrafted in our workshops in Porto. The region’s tradition of artisanal woodworking and technical upholstery makes a piece like this possible—from the balance of support and softness in the bolsters to the precision of the oak base and the finish of every removable cover. Each Balu reflects the skill of the hands that made it.
Looking Ahead
Launching in Portugal sets the tone for everything that follows. Our makers, our materials and our vision for deeply rooted craft standing the test of time. With these raw fundamentals and ability to customize to fit your own personality, Ora Home is positioned to support bringing quiet resonance to your home.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
We chose Northern Portugal, specifically the region surrounding Porto, for its world-class heritage in artisanal woodworking and technical upholstery. This proximity allows for rigorous quality control over our solid European oak structures and a low-friction supply chain for European luxury interior projects.
Permanence is achieved through material honesty. The Balu is built on a heavy, freestanding rustic white oak base with multi-density foam and feather and down toppers. Because no element is fixed to another, individual pieces can be serviced, recovered or updated — so the sofa anchors a home for decades rather than seasons.
Yes. Every piece in the collection is designed with natural flexibility. Through our bespoke online customizer, designers can select from nine removable fabrics, three wood treatments, and a range of colours per textile, allowing each piece to be tailored to a project’s palette and orientation.
